Slothfurnace's D5-C0 SWTOR Droid Game Model Print & Paint
Page 1

This droid is very special to me, as it is one of the in-game rewards for the Remote Trading Outpost quest chain "Do or Dianoga"
This was a variant on the C1-4W claw droid, but with a holographic turntable and disco ball.

The challenge with making this in real life was the turntable, I had to have it lit, and animated, which meant some kind of translucent cap on an LED ring I could program with an Arduino. The LED ring I had to source, and the filament I had to test.

My first try at translucent filament looked ok, I had no idea how it would work till I got it on top of the LED ring. I also had to print 'puzzle piece' sections to block the light, and embed down in to the translucent cap.

No idea how much tolerance I needed, I just printed off the inverse of my cap, and tried it out. I had just gotten in the 8 LED ring, and wanted to test it.

The wonders of technology! It fits perfectly with a solid snap, and my turntable hologram is ready to fit and test.

I reprinted the turntable housing to fit the LED ring, and test fit it all together.

Test fit is all good now time to test fit for the rest of the components needed to make the droid as close to in-game as possible.

Which also includes the animated lit dome on the top of the head, here I am using a 5mm neopixel LED.

All printed parts filler puttied, sanded, primed and ready to fit, install and/or paint. Shown here also is the Adafruit Li-Ion battery charger I am using to charge the battery.

Painting the feet a metallic gray and then drybrushing edge wear. Also shown here is my window template I use to cut the acrylic windows for the case.

Painting the opaque inserts for the holo turntable element.

Doing the straight trim line and pinstripe by hand, I will probably mask off the more complicated curves on the rest of the model

Masking off for trim lines and pinstripes

Masking off for more of the trim paint, this will be a purple trim with brighter purple pinstripe.

Thanks for looking!
